O.K., what's the catch? Most of these programs are complementary products
that go with books that Ganesha is promoting. You don't need the books
to make them work, but they make the books more useful. For example, if
you are teaching statistical process control, you can use the SPC software
with Levinson and Tumbelty, SPC Essentials and Productivity Improvement:
A Manufacturing Approach.
Important: before selecting a program, you must configure your browser
to (1) launch a helper application (like Microsoft Excel or Corel Quattro
Pro) or (2) save the file to disk.
Your remedy for any dissatisfaction is a full refund of your purchase price
No freeware offered here constitutes engineering advice or an engineering
design service. Such services must be rendered personally, or under the
direct supervision of, qualified engineers.
To the best of my knowledge, the ActiveX documents are safe to run on your
computer. They are not designed to access the hard drive (unless you instruct
them to save a report to a file, in which case that's all they will do).
I have tested them on mine.
ActiveX programs require Microsoft
Internet Explorer 4.0 (Service Pack 2 or higher)
or version 5 to operate.(download for free from Microsoft). They are ActiveX
or Internet Explorer. I have not yet been able to get these programs
to work with Internet Explorer 3.0, but I have run them on two different
computers with IE 4.0. Comments are welcome. Send Mail firstname.lastname@example.org
ActiveX Troubleshooting note: Microsoft
Developer Network Library, April 1999
A dialog box with the following messages appear in Internet Explorer:
Opening file <ActiveX Document>.VBD
What would you like to do with this file?
Open it or Save it to disk.
This error occurs because the Visual Basic 5.0 Run-time Library (MSVBVM50.DLL)
is not installed. This will most likely occur if the Internet Explorer
safety level is set to High. Set the Internet Explorer safety level to
Medium or None.
I have deliberately saved the spreadsheets as older Excel (or Quattro
Pro) formats, to make them readable by newer versions of Excel, Quattro
Pro, and Lotus software.

Multiple attribute control charts are check sheets or tally sheets
with control limits. They are:
more powerful than traditional attribute charts (np, p, c, and u)
capable of tracking several defect or nonconformance sources simultaneously
easy to use on the factory floor
Traditional u (defect density) chart, capable of accepting variable sample
